Minnie Mortimer in Matchbook

Happy Thursday! The new Matchbook is out and it's a fun one. My favorite shots are of Minnie Mortimer's bright sitting area with it's charming transom windows, white brick walls and colorful cushions...And that library. Wow. Love the stack of sea-green books that continues up to the next shelf....Photographs are from Matchbook's April issue, which went live yesterday. Photography by Bonnie Tsang for Matchbook. Go have a look!

Ode to a Chaise: by Wyeth on 1st Dibs

There are times when I open up my Wednesday 1st Dibs e-mail and a presentation of an object compels me to say, "Ode to a..." Today, seeing this Dolphin, was one of those times. Ode to a chaise...Is there any better way to present this chair? If I were selling it, this is exactly how I would want to do it. Gorgeous. Thank you, Wyeth.
New this week, Wyeth is offering for sale this 1950's oak and cane Dolphin folding chaise, designed by Hans Wegner cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen. Lovely.

Package in the Mail

Remember I won Beach Bungalow 8's giveaway of these candles? They arrived today and they smell so good. Aren't they pretty, too? Thank you Megan!

My Mother

Good morning everyone. I'm remembering my beautiful mother today on what would have been her 73rd birthday. She died seven and a half years ago, and I miss her very much... every day. Loving you, Mom.

Inspiring My Closet

I'm still tweaking my closet and it's been a lot of fun. I'll show you as soon as it's feeling right. I'm so excited to put up an inspiration board, and to have my little art wall. Since I can actually see the walls (my wardrobe is not ahem extensive), I want to make them personal and inspiring. They'll be the first things I see after my wake-up shower in the morning, so I'm hoping they'll put me in a positive place even before I have my coffee. Wow -that would really be something. I'm also working toward realistically organized shelves and drawers. I'm not a truly tidy person, so this has to be easy... as in it won't be perfect. Today I thought I'd show you some of my inspiration...I like the idea of the cork behind the shoes, and I love the easy piles of jeans. I'd like to put my more feminine books in there, add handbag dividers, match all my hangers, color coordinate my clothes, and put out some little bowls for keeping sweet things together. Seriously, my closet has been a bit of a dump for the eight years we've been in our home... how does that happen? Time flies, you get used to things, they become part of the furniture, who wants to tackle the closet, etc, etc, etc... So, making it all mine and pretty feels really good. I hope you have such a beautiful weekend... not organizing your closet!
Shots 1 and 3 are from this great Karla's Closet post, 2 is from the glamourai, both blogs found via Brilliant Apparel. 4 is from Lonny, design by Cath Kidston, photography by Patrick Cline. 5 is from deliciously organized, 6 is by mo+mo living and 7 is by Trine Thorsen for Elle Interior Norway via Bodie and Fou.

Elizabeth Taylor

So beautiful, loyal, giving, legendary, larger than life, really. As a young girl, I idolized her in National Velvet...From Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Both gone...A true love affair...Fiery, full of life...I'm not sure the actors or celebrities of the current generation will ever be as grand as Liz Taylor was.

New Follow Monday

Hi - I'm back with new follows for the week. I stumbled on both last night and immediately added them to the list. The first is Kelly Wearstler's new blog, My Vibe My Life, because it is pretty exciting to have such an approachable, honest and personal look into the creative process of this soon-to-be (already?) iconic designer...The photos are taken by Wearstler herself or, in some cases, by someone right beside her who is photographing her. They are glimpses into the raw materials that inspire her, how she thinks and creates, and what she's putting together right now. I particularly love the "vibe trays" she creates (second photo above), which are essentially mood boards, but to me they have so much more depth and fluidity. This is a very cool new blog... I love it. I hope you do, too. (Oh, and did I mention it's in super-large format? wow!)
The second fun find is Rive Gauche Rehab by a+b kasha, found thanks to the always-inspiring Bloesem...Beautiful interior photos, huh? a+b kasha is Alon and Betsy Kasha and their team. They buy, rehab and furnish, and then resell lovely Paris left bank apartments. They document the process and show us what inspires them on their blog Rive Gauche Rehab. I enjoy seeing creatives in the middle of their work, especially when their photos are this gorgeous, so this one is right up my alley. I hope you like it too. Thanks for visiting and... get outside this first day of Spring!

Ben Shahn

Happy Monday, and I hope your weekend was so peaceful. I came across a work by Ben Shahn the other day and was instantly reminded that even his lines are masterpieces... All artwork by Ben Shahn. The first, of a dove, is from a 2005 Rago auction. The second, Figure with Ice Cream Cone, is the one that made me smile and go on my search. I saw it on Pinterest, looked for a source, and came to a dead end. So, I continued the search on my own, and I was able to find that the original digital image was created by the Treadway/Toomey Galleries for a March 2005 auction (not by the woman who copyrighted it on flickr (???)). The third, Female Figure, is also from Treadway/Toomey in 2005. And the last three are from Rago's auction of Ben Shahn's estate in November of 2010. They are: the cover image from Book on Ben Shahn written by his wife Bernarda Shahn, Dove, and The Sea Itself from the Rainer Maria Rilke Folio. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Happy first week of Spring to you!

Auction: Wright Modern Design

Happy Thursday. And Happy St. Patrick's Day! It's snowing here and I'm a bit under the weather again. But it's sweet and uplifting to see my little one excited about this lucky holiday, off to kindergarten all in green, looking for the results of last night's leprechaun foolery in the classroom.
I've been browsing some auctions and today I have some of my favorites from Wright's Modern Design auction coming up March 31st. I think this first one is fantastic...
and these are pretty great, too:An Erik Hoglund candelabra, a Guido Gambone vase, a Peter Muller-Munk Normandie pitcher, a Joseph-Andre Motte lamp, a collection of Rosenthal vases, two Pierre Jeanneret console tables, a Moroccan rug, and a Jean Prouve table. There are many more pieces in this one that I love. Go to Wright's site to see them all.
All photos from Wright.
