Sell By 03-12-94

We had a successful and liberating declutter day. The funniest finds were these two. The Finast Oregano came from a grocery store in Westchester, NY ... and I left NY 13 years ago. Even more hilarious was the little jar of Ginger. Sell by 3-12-94! I'm glad I can record for posterity their presence in my home, which somehow frees me from being sentimental about them. I swear, the weirdest things can make one sentimental and nostalgic. Ahhhh...out they go!

I just found roddy & ginger, a sweet shop where you can find the cheerful, retro-inspired creations of textile and graphic designer Virginia Armstrong.

I Should Have Known

Did you notice that President Obama is a lefty? I didn't know until he signed his first proclamation as President. Very cool says this south paw.

Sofas

Mrs. French is looking for sofas. I have been home and a bit under the weather... so I found a few that I thought were pretty, are made by reputable makers, and are probably available in Portland (at Parker Furniture or Mitchell Gold) except for those from Room and Board and Lost City Arts. You can click on the links below the sets, which will take you to my boards and their links to the makers, details, etc. (not much pricing, though). Most of these can be upholstered with C.O.M.!

Richard Powers

I've just spent way too much time exploring the portfolio of photographer Richard Powers. So beautiful. You could spend days going through his library of houses. Thanks Emma.

Yoga

No, not I... though I desperately need it. Eddie! At Montessori...

I can't tell you how good I feel when I see these.

The No-Clutter Quest

It's time for some reorganization! There are so many toys, clothes, magazines... so much mail, work, and just stuff! First, we need to cull (the toughest part for me), then organize. I'm definitely in the cut-throat, brutal frame of mind necessary for getting stuff out of the house, though! I truly dislike the plastic bins currently holding our legos, train sets, cars, clothes, and all kinds of things. We can re-purpose those for any deep storage needs (hopefully few). We need containers that look fun and neat in the open or on shelves. See those baskets above?? Thanks to the current issue of Domino, I see how they can look, I like the look enough to go with it, and they won't break the bank...

They are washable! They're the right size to fit in the units in Eddie's room or on our bookshelves in the playroom. You've seen them before, IKEA's Komplement woven baskets. (I love the colorful tags Domino's shown, too, but I seriously doubt I'll get everything labeled!) I do wish they were made of a natural material (hemp?), but I think I'll get them anyway.

Ahhhh, more inspiration in the continuing quest for order, from Living Etc.....

I Want No Clutter

I'm tired of the clutter. I would like my home to look airy and clean. And well put together would be nice, too. These inspire me... The spaces above were created by Delson or Sherman Architects.

And find this one here. The photo is taken by the talented Lisa Cohen. P.S I would like the throw blanket please.

There's A Trail Called Dead Dog...

I do not know why it has this name... I don't think I want to know. But I had the pleasure of snowshoeing up it this morning until there were no more tracks to follow, no more trail to be found under all that snow... beautiful.
